The artist writes, “According to Navajo mythology, we are living in the Fifth World, also known as the Glittering World. My Navajo guide told me this while touring deep into Canyon de Chelly on a recent trip. I felt her words immediately, for I had been using the term ‘shimmering’ in my own mind to describe the feeling of strong morning sun bouncing off those sheer cliffs onto the many-colored valley floor below.”
