Discussing the depth and range of Kuhn’s artistic approach, Dr. Adam Duncan Harris, former Curator of Art at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, observed, “Looking at the scope of Kuhn's work gives us a broader sense of animal life. He does not reproduce chase-scene after chase-scene, ad nauseum. Instead, he depicts a range of animal activity, from the warm-up before a hunt to the moments after a kill. [This painting] shows Kuhn investigating the different effects of atmosphere and mood … the dusky yellow of Lion and Wildebeest signals the end of the day, the end of the hunt, and the death of the wildebeest.”
