Signed, titled, and dated

As Tom Davis noted in The Art of Bob Kuhn, Kuhn’s relationship with Africa runs deep, “Africa speaks to Bob Kuhn in the private language of a lover, and he, in turn, interprets this speech into his own medium. You do not simply view his paintings of Africa: you are enveloped by them. You can taste the dust in the air, smell the musk of animals, hear the hollow grunts and the syncopations of hooves. It is an experience for all the senses, and for the mind. When you look at a Kuhn painting, you do nothing less than enter his world.

“Bob Kuhn has made Africa his, in the same way that Grant Wood possessed Iowa, or Van Gogh, Arles. He has inscribed it with a personal signature, exposed a corner of its soul. His paintings are the lenses through which we see.”
