Reflecting on his work, the artist observed, “There is some symbolism in the depiction of dogs, birds and other wildlife which I don’t entirely understand. I think it has to do with the concepts of freedom, innocence, and the flight from our perceived bonds of job and responsibility. In any event, I’ve sold paintings of hunting dogs … to people who have never owned a dog. Whatever and however it works, symbolism can be strong medicine.”
