VERSO
Label, Gerald Peters Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Art historian Mindy A. Besaw wrote, “As artists and explorers ventured farther west, the Rocky Mountains offered spectacular views to be captured on canvas. Contemporary artist Tucker Smith does not have to journey far from his home on the Hoback Rim in western Wyoming to find his favorite subject – the unspoiled beauty of sprawling ranchland and mountainous wilderness areas. Smith takes frequent horsepack trips into the Wind River Range where he is continually inspired by nature. He says his art is informed by an experiential imperative: ‘I live in the West, so my paintings reflect the West … I believe it is necessary to experience nature first hand in order to be able to convey it to someone else through a painting.’”
