Describing this painting Elmer Kelton wrote, “Mixed together in colorful pageantry, trappers and friendly Indians gleefully greet the arrival of trade wagons and pack trains at the site of the annual fur-trading rendezvous. These gatherings spared the mountain men the necessity of carrying their pelts all the way eastward to Saint Louis for sale.”
