“In the spring of 1839,—living at the time in the western part of Ohio,—being then in my twentieth year, I conceived a desire to see the great prairies of the West…,” thus begins John Bidwell’s narrative adventure for which Remington provided several illustrations, including Water!.

Condition ReportSurface condition good. Unlined, original canvas. Faint hairline cracks in sky and center-left, above horse’s head. Half-inch diameter spot of inpainting below whip of top figure’s hand.
