2014 Coeur d’Alene Art Auction / Lot 118
Uprising of the Yaqui Indians - Yaqui Warriors in Retreat is listed as number 2095 in the Frederic Remington Catalogue Raisonné.
The August 29, 1896 edition of Harper’s Weekly will accompany the lot.
Remington wrote, “It seems from despatches that the Yaquis are again turbulent-this time being exceptional, since they have come north through Sonora to our borders in Arizona, and have attacked the town of Nogales by storm.
“The Mexicans should be tired of trying to subdue them, it would seem, and the only solution of the problem is to conclude fair treaties with them and let Sonora enjoy peace—a thing that state has never known, what with Yaquis, Apaches, Ceris, and bandits both red and white.”
