Reflecting on time in the African wilderness, the artist wrote, “My spouse and I spent some time in Chobe Game Park in Botswana back in the seventies. It was full of game of all sorts, not the least of which was the king of antelope, the kudu. We saw and photographed them in many settings, under varied circumstances. They drifted in and out of the grey scrub, sometimes clearly defined, at other times a hint of striped grey or fawn in a world of grey and fawn. The tonal similarity of beast and bush was evidently part of some master plan. Seemed so to us anyway.”
