The artist wrote, “The imposing kudu, the grey ghost of Africa’s scrub forest, is about as elegant as antelope get. The bull’s long spiral horns are prized by trophy hunters, but he’s an even greater jewel when seen where he truly belongs – in a setting made more fascinating by his elusive presence.
“Although we typically think of kudu as delicately built animals, a prime herd bull during the rut will develop a neck so swollen that it almost appears to be bursting out of the skin and giving him the look of a Holstein bull.”
