2025 Coeur d’Alene Art Auction
Western art authority Patricia Janis Broder wrote, “Sheriffs, preachers, cowboys, and frontiersmen – these were the colorful characters of Proctor’s early life in the West. From them, Proctor learned firsthand the courage and determination of the pioneers. Later in his life, he gave a new vitality to monumental sculpture through his interpretations of these courageous men and women. His statues immortalized the spirit of the settlers. His interest was not that of a sociologist or anthropologist, but rather that of a naturalist, observing the glorious figures of the West. Animals and hunters, pioneers and Indians, these were the inhabitants of Proctor’s West. Throughout his life, Proctor’s art proclaimed his delight with the West.”
