Art historian Michael R. Grauer notes, “Beginning in 1907, Dunton began illustrating Alfred Henry Lewis’ ‘Wolfville’ series, published in Cosmopolitan through 1911. This painting is the second of four that Dunton provided for Lewis’ ‘That Turner Person: How “Wolfville” Revived a Shattered Romance,’ published in Cosmopolitan, February 1910. The final image in this group is in a major collection of Western art in Arizona.”
