In discussing this painting the artist wrote, “The fort/castle of Alhambra lies to the west of the city of Granada. Just outside the Gate of Justice sits one of the most beautiful fountains in Spain, The Charles V (Pilar de Carlos V). Designed by Pedro Machuca and built in 1545 by Nicolás de Corte, the fountain is considered one of the masterpieces of the Spanish Renaissance. For hundreds of years travelers have paused for a relaxing moment, to enjoy the cooling waters.”
