In discussing this painting the artist writes, “When you first consider the characteristics of a burro you think about their life as a beast of burden. They are, however much, much, more. We all know they can be stubborn but they are also loyal, and trustworthy. If a burro is pastured with sheep or goats, they become a guardian and protector. This is also true for their association with man. A donkey can become part of a family and as with any family the older watches over the younger.”
