The artist wrote, “On my numerous trips to East Africa, several of them two months long, I spent a lot of time observing, photographing and sketching lions. I have witnessed their intense concentration when prey is sighted and serious hunting begins. I have seen the chase and the miss. I have come upon them squabbling over captured prey or sleeping off a gigantic feed.”
