In discussing life in New Mexico, Dixon’s daughter Constance wrote, “My father has really gotten into his stride now, and is doing some very fine work. Strange to say, coming to a country that has been pretty thoroughly painted in all its aspects, he seems to have hit on something new, something underneath. I feel that he has gone deeper than even the men who belong to the Taos group, and that the work that he has done while here is more truly an interpretation of this strange wild country than that of the men who have lived here for years.”
