VERSO
Signed and titled

The artist wrote, “No city in the United States holds more meaning to all of us than Washington, D.C., so named in honor of George Washington, founder of this great nation of ours, and Christopher Columbus, the man who discovered the North American Continent.

“And what a place Washington is! My visits there always renew my respect for the people who made history happen by building the institutions we live with today. Washington is a hub around which the wheels of democracy, commerce, transportation, learning and the arts revolve. And of course, the very physical layout of the city reminds us of this. Planned by Maj. Pierre Charles L’Enfant, the city focuses on the nation’s Capitol building from which the streets radiate outwards like spokes in a wheel … to the people and the rest of the nation.”
