Describing this painting the artist wrote, “Three cowboys gain the higher ground after being fired upon in the hinterlands of the range. They aren’t sure who waylaid them. This far out, it could be banditos or Apaches from Old Mexico, picking up some extra stock. Could be plain ol’ rustlers.

“Scotch Dan peers into the wash below. Yep, some steers are gathered.

“Boys, he says, I don’t believe we could show our faces at the ranch house if we were to hide up here while Rockin T cattle were taken. I suppose we better reload and take care of this.”
