The artist writes, “The trails on the western slope of Montana near the Idaho border are rugged and wild. This is the setting for this scene. It is a late summer day and the sun is getting low in the sky as these travelers descend an ancient mountain trail. They are anxious to return to their valley camp to rest from a hard day of riding.”
