In Bronzes of the American West Patricia Broder wrote, “The artists of the early twentieth century were conscious of a world that was ending and lamented its loss. Many delighted in recreating in their imagination the vanished past.
“Others worked to preserve what remained of America’s natural heritage. As areas that only a few years before had been isolated outposts became thriving towns and as acres of wilderness became cultivated farmland, artists created landscapes which idealized the glory and tranquility of untouched natural beauty. Whereas painters glorified both landscape and animal life, sculptors chose representations of animals to express their full appreciation of nature.... A new generation of sculptors emerged who combined the skill and knowledge of the scientist with the vision and imagination of the artist. Shrady...created some of the finest bronze sculptures of American Western wildlife.”
