Describing this painting the artist wrote, “The would-be sophisticates of this frontier town apparently haven’t taken the rough edge off their behavior. That’s alright. It’s all in good fun and harmless as long as the barkeep can save the bottles.

“I imagine the fellow about to be vaulted, in the yellow shirt, is shouting something like, ‘Bite his posterior, Blacky,’ (or words to that effect) to the mutt circling below.”
