A companion painting to the present work was shown in a retrospective exhibition, Edwin Deakin: California Painter of the Picturesque, held at the Crocker Museum, Sacramento in 2008, where it was pictured in the accompanying catalogue (p 37) written by director Scott Shields. The exhibition then traveled to the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno.

Indian Encampment in the Sierra is housed in its original frame.
