After the murder of rancher John Tunstall in 1878, Dick Brewer was deputized to lead a posse called the Regulators that included Billy the Kid and other gunmen. Called the Lincoln County War, events came to a head at the gunfight at Blazer’s Mills where Brewer was shot and killed.
