The artist writes, “A ‘remuda’ (a group of saddle horses from which cowboys choose a mount for the day) is still a necessary and vital part of any successful ranching operation. These two cowpunchers are skillfully moving a small herd down a steep bank toward a new corral, fresher pasture, and better water. After a night’s rest, each ranch hand will saddle up a favorite quarter horse and ride off to another day’s hard work.”
