In Spirit of the North Kesler E. Woodward wrote, “... Ziegler’s view of Alaska was romantic but grounded in the reality of the life he saw and lived.” Phyllis Carlson, a writer and neighbor of the artist in Cordova, said about his work, “It is a man challenging a Nature he cannot conquer, but by hope and strength can learn to live in. If now and then we lament the passing of those vivid days, we can renew our spirits before Eustace Paul Ziegler’s canvases, for he dipped his paint brush into life as it was lived in the rough and rugged days of Alaska’s youth.”
