The artist writes, “Hiding in thick gnarly cover, bobwhite quail hold very still, feeling that they are concealed from predators. The pointers might not see the quail but the scent is strong and unmistakable. When a covey blasts out of cover, all hell breaks loose, and in a matter of seconds it’s over. Most of the time the quail are triumphant - but on occasion, after the smoke settles and a few feathers hang in the air, a proud and most happy dog returns with a warm bird in his mouth.”
