The artist wrote, “I have a special fondness for early morning light. Generally, there is water vapor in the air not yet burned off, and the sun is still low enough to produce long, interesting shadows. A facade of buildings at a glancing angle to the sun presents a staccato effect of shapes and accents. I like to play with a picture like this, putting everything in its place to achieve an atmospheric perspective bathed in cool, early morning sunlight.”

Condition Report3/4” patch on back of painting (upper-left corner as viewed from the perspective of behind the painting). Surface condition is good. Several hairline cracks in sky and left of center of painting. Two small spots of inpainting in sky.
