2016 Coeur d’Alene Art Auction / Lot 54
Rungius completed this painting for John H. Batten, a close friend.
According to Jon Whyte & E. J. Hart, “The painting of Rungius’ maturity employed all the lessons and elements that he had learned during his earlier career. Almost entirely of animal subjects, they integrated fully the combination of subject, landscape and atmosphere that led to his reputation as the continent’s foremost big game artist.”
