2015 Coeur d’Alene Art Auction / Lot 149
The artist writes, “There are some true stories of the West that just need to be dusted off and conveyed through song. From horse thieves to gamblers, rodeo queens to old cowhands, Mike Hurwitz tells their tales with the wry perspective of a Wyoming native. Born in Laramie in 1949, Mike spent long days in the saddle, haying, branding calves and mending fences. A life on the range taught him the value of hard work, good horses and friends, and a love for the land and its history. He says ‘Winters in the mountains can get pretty old. Sometimes sitting by a warm fire with an old guitar and a bottle you might get lucky, and the words and melodies slide like snow off a tin roof.’”
According to American Cowboy Magazine, “Mike Hurwitz grew up with a guitar in one hand and reins in the other. Along the road he’s howled with coyotes and picked with the greats, and has become the best of both - wild and untamed.”
