The Charge of Crazy Horse on Fort Laramie, 1864 (2013)
oil on canvas
40 × 60 inches
signed lower right
According to the artist, “During the summer of 1864 out of pure exasperation and disrespect for the army, Crazy Horse and a band of 40 warriors charged through the Fort Laramie parade field, taunting the surprised troopers with their war cries. Alarming the entire fort, the unnerved soldiers ran in all directions and many of the horses tethered to the hitching posts broke free. Those grazing in the parade grounds ran ahead of the charging Indians. Many horses were captured and taken back to Crazy Horse’s camp.”
