According to the artist, “The painting title, Tranquility, is in stark contrast to the perilous position that this sub species of leopard finds itself in. The Amur or Manchurian Leopard is the rarest of all big cats; it is estimated that there are only 30 - 40 individuals left in the wild, putting this beautiful animal on the verge of extinction. It is hoped that with concerted conservation efforts this cat can be brought back from the edge and that in a few years it will exist in more than just photos or paintings.”
