According to Hudson biographer Searles R. Boynton, Eba, the woman in this painting, modeled often for Hudson. “Eba as Do- sho-ya, a Matron, appeared again in Pomo Basket Maker, and in The Bear Woman. Four full-length portraits of the woman were completed between 1911 and 1913. Each of these had similar backgrounds; still-life studies of Pomo baskets, and costumes.” Eba was also the model for The Wi-ly, posing in Pomo head dress.
