According to the artist, “The snow leopard is an almost mythical beast, living a solitary existence mostly at altitudes exceeding 10,000 feet. Fabulously beautiful, it stands out even in this family of spectacularly attractive animals, and is felt by many to be the most beautiful of the cats. In this painting the temptation to place the snow leopard in snow has been avoided. Instead, it’s shown in its rocky and mountainous environment in early summer. The last of the snow can be seen in the shelter of the rocks and the Himalayan blue poppies are in full bloom.”
