2018 Coeur d’Alene Art Auction / Lot 43
The artist writes, “This painting was inspired by my most recent visit to the Masai Mara game reserve in Kenya during the short rains. On this particular day the sky was almost black with the threat of heavy rain. I saw two magnificent nomadic male lions walking towards me, manes blowing in the wind and lit by lovely warm afternoon sunlight. These two lions meant business and were looking to take over a pride after driving off the resident male or males which would inevitably lead to a vicious battle between the big cats. The title of the painting not only alludes to the prevailing weather conditions but more especially to the Approaching Storm about to be visited upon the local pride of resident lions!”
