According to the artist in a letter to the painting’s current owner, “The painting you sent a photo of was done from some reference material I shot at an old ‘ghost town’ in west Texas many years ago. I was just trying to capture the feel of a late night departure and the ‘goodbyes’ between a couple. The oft-used phrase ‘Vaya con Dios,’ or essentially ‘Go with God,’ I felt was appropriate for the painting.”
