The artist wrote, “ Although many people regard realistic landscape painting as simple, it is actually one of the most complex forms of painting. Successful landscapes are rarely achieved. I believe that literal translation, often influenced by the mechanical imagery of the photograph, becomes too commonplace. There are no surprises, no mystery or provocation. The literal seems shallow for those looking for more. Successful realistic images initially engage the viewer through subject, emotion and shared experiences, then move on to discovery.”
