The artist writes, “I have long been fascinated with the hardiness of the American Rocky Mountain goat and always enjoy painting these fabulous looking animals. Usually staying above the tree line in summer and descending to lower elevations in winter their life seems one of relative hardship and I suppose their ability to adapt to extreme conditions is one of the things that attracts me to paint them. The pair I painted in this painting have survived another winter and are climbing to higher elevations, looking forward to a summer of relative ease in the mountains.”
