According to Country Gentleman magazine, “If you remember the June, 1946, Country Gentleman cover you’ll recognize the cowboy as artist Peter Hurd’s friend and neighbor, Leroy McKnight. We’re delighted to welcome Leroy back again, this time in the clear, cool dawn of a New Mexico morning. Mr. Hurd, commenting on the model for his painting, says Mr. McKnight, after his previous appearance, got used to being called ‘the pin-up boy of Lincoln County.’ But the offers of marriage he received upset him. Seems he’s married, girls, and a father, to boot.”
