The book, Frank Stick Splendid Painter of the Out-of-Doors, will accompany the lot.

According to Michael F. Mordell, “One of his best action scenes, A Critical Moment, was done in 1926 for the Thomas D. Murphy Company. It depicts two men navigating some rough water in their canoe, and the front paddler has raised and aimed his rifle at a swimming, angry, snarling bear half in their canoe, on the attack. It is a dramatic action painting and was reprinted for many years by the company.”
