An original 1906 Marlin Firearms poster and original and very rare Marlin catalog, both framed, will accompany the lot.

According to Richard C. Rattenbury, “Likely the first of Goodwin’s paintings commissioned for arms–industry marketing, this work earned the artist a paltry $100.00 from the Forbes Lithograph Company. The Marlin Firearms Company employed the image for both its 1906 catalog cover and advertising poster, following under the marketing slogan The Gun for the Man Who Knows. Clad in an unlikely pair of white–angora chaps, the cowboy–hunter stealthily surveys his quarry with his Marlin repeating rifle prominently displayed. ...”

Condition ReportSurface condition is excellent. Painting has been lined. Horizontal hairline inpainting across top, in sky. Several specks of inpainting in sky. Spot of inpainting to right of rifle.
