In 1945, Harvey Dunn was recognized by the National Academy of Design with the coveted status of National Academician. Taught by Howard Pyle, Dunn went on to teach a legion of great American artists beginning shortly before World War I and continuing until World War II. The artist and historian Walt Reed thought Dunn was “one of the most important illustrators of the 20th century, best known for the authenticity of his Western subjects.”

Condition ReportSurface condition is very good. Faint hairline cracks in upper-left corner. Faint craquelure in foreground. Several specks of inpainting in upper-right corner, and upper-left quadrant. Small spot of inpainting in upper-left corner, at edge of frame. Speck of inpainting in bottom-center portion.
