Las Ramblas (2004)
oil on canvas
26 × 46 inches

The book, Hulings: Timeless Beauty: Pursuing Life’s Textures, will accompany the lot.

Describing this painting the artist wrote, “The most interesting time of day for this pedestrian mall is early morning. The mist has not yet burned off. Flower merchants are setting up their stalls, Barcelonans are walking to work and tourists are still in bed.”

Hulings’ daughter Elizabeth wrote, “Las Ramblas is the famous pedestrian mall in Barcelona. People stroll along it at all hours, eating, drinking, chatting and purchasing flowers and all kinds of things. It is lovely. Typically, Clark Hulings was interested most in the people working, although he captured the amblers as well.”
