In his classic book, Wilderness Hunter (1893), Theodore Roosevelt wrote, “The chase is among the best of all national pastimes.” For generations Roosevelt inspired hunters to head to the great outdoors to pursue and conquer nature. There is no greater symbol of nature’s majesty than the moose. Goodwin, like no other artist, captured the thrill of the moment as the hunt came to a climax. According to Goodwin biographer, Dr. Larry Len Peterson, “Moose Hunters is one of Goodwin’s masterworks and demonstrates an exceptional attention to detail, deft composition, and accuracy of color. The oil is a poignant reminder of why he is considered by many to be America’s greatest sporting and wildlife artist.”
