The artist writes, “In this piece, I wanted to fill most of the painting with the figure and horse. It was also important to show the figure on a kind of hilltop there-by having an inspiring view of the poplars and distant mountains. By combining these two elements I was able to create a very pleasing composition, which I think works together very well. As the figure and horse were placed, it was important to show a powerful and noble face on the figure. The combination of all these elements gave me great satisfaction in the painting of this picture.”
